Our was in 2011 when we went to the Gambia to write a thesis on how aid could be optimized from a local perspective.  

Instead of checking in at a hotel we checked in with a family on the Gambian countryside. And instead of bury our selves in books and theory we went outside to get to know the locals with the ambition to figure out what they thought of the aid given to them.
